Thursday October 9th, 2008 Wolfs Percussion Theatre competed in the 5th, and largest, of their 6 competitions to open the 2008 season
There were 16 ensembles competing in Open Class
The ensemble scored a 50.515 and finished in 10th
The kids were not too excited about their performance but were not disappointed either. They had hoped to show the fruits of their labour and to atleast finish in the top half, but they were happy to have finally broken 50
The ensemble did not place in any of the captions. They did finish in the top half(8th or higher) in Music Performance(8th)and Overall(8th)
Tonight will be a much smaller show, leading into the first day of rest for the ensemble before they head into the first FMA sponsored event on Sunday the 12th where there will be 20 Open Class ensembles competing

Update-10/07/08
So the kids had an idea today for how they wanted practie to go. And,me being the openminded dierector that I am, I let them do it.
The Snare/Drum captain Andrew wanted to start off the morning block with the normal stretch routine. But he decided to add a new twist to the morning run. He had the entire ensemble for a block and they had to to the run without breaking the formation. He asked me to follow behind them and if the block began to fall apart then they would have to start all over again. It took the group about 3 trys before they finally got it right.
The point in doing this was to help build unity and trust in the ensemble. Since they constantly are in close quarters with each other on the floor they should be able to move with each other in unisen and control their input/output of emotion and energy to help balance the ensemble.
The kids then started off the day in sub-sections and were working on their music and drill counts individually. All 4 battery sections were givin some time in the gym to use the floor to practice moving while they were playing. The tenors seemed to imporve alot during this time. With them being our youngest section, they have the most room to improve but also the most potential that can be maxed out if they work hard enough.
After sub-sectionals the ensemble had a meeting during their mid-day break to talk about their goals for the season. They requested the staff not be there so I have no idea what they talked about but I'm hoping it involves me getting to put a medal around their necks at Finals this season. I have alot of faith in these kids and have no doubt that they will come back strong from these two mediocre performances and start making their presence known.
During ensemble practice today, the kids seemed really focused and determined to get the show back on track and start maxing it out. Hopefully this focus will transfer over to the floor tonight when they compete at the Carolina Indoor Regional(Hosted by Carolina Vega the 3rd ranked World Class indoor ensemble)
Visually the show is still relatively weak, but we hope to fix that soon. We will be focusing on visuals for the next few days in the hopes that it will help out Visual performance and Visual Effect scores.
